Dining as a creative act

Dish, Tampa and Saint Petersburg, Florida

This pair of themed restaurants was based on a novel concept that involves diners actively in the preparation of their meals. They choose their own fresh ingredients, select their sauce, and gather at the grill as their selections are cooked to order. The result is an exceptionally interactive, social and theatrical dining experience-one that called for a unique design solution.

We created two innovative designs that met each restaurant's unique programmatic needs, while adding to the fun of the experience. Our designs blend a variety of intriguing elements that reinforce the flow and movement central to Dish's dynamic dining model. Swirling strips of color, both overhead and echoed on the floor, evoke the experience of dining in the eye of a hurricane. Brilliant mosaics and a rainbow of fabrics add a rich, multi-layered dimension of both color and texture. Dramatic lighting fixtures, created specifically for each restaurant, make their own statement of color and shape. Seating arrangements engage diners in the space, offering a dramatic view of the activity, while still providing intimacy. Throughout the process, we worked closely with client and contractors to ensure successful execution of the many design details.
