Environment as inspiration

As a small graphic design firm with big ideas, Stormship Studios wanted to balance the need for both collaborative and individual work space, while preserving the openness of their loft-like space. They wanted their environment to reflect the creativity of their work-and they needed to stay within budget.

Connor's design solution retains the open character of the space, while adding a new dimension of color, shape and character. Programmatic goals are met through innovative use of raised platforms, curved planes and translucent screens that provide individual workspace, without isolating designers into cubicle "silos." Screens are suspended from a natural wood "track" that ties the space together with an organic curve. The dramatic shapes, colors and lighting complete the effect, reinforcing Stormship's identity as a firm that addresses business challenges with design solutions that are creative, fun and exciting. Careful selection of materials and a "less is more" approach resulted in a highly cost-effective project.
