Reinterpreting the cafeteria

With sophisticated tastes and a universe of dining choices available to them, students today have an appetite for something beyond the archetypal stainless steel cafeteria line.

For this project at Edinboro University, we created an interactive dining environment that redefines the experience of campus dining, bringing people together in exciting, new ways. The Marketplace breaks down the traditional barriers between the kitchen and the public space, transforming the dining experience by placing fresh ingredients and meal preparation at center stage. The space juxtaposes the abstract visual excitement of an urban bistro with the intimacy and community of a farmers market-a combination that has proven irresistible to university diners.
